Trina Koelwyn, assistant midwife

I was born in British Columbia, Canada and spent most of my childhood between there and Alberta. We moved many times while growing up, which I believe is what gave me my wandering spirit. I was never one of those kids in school who knew exactly what she wanted to do—there were many things I wanted to do, and I needed to try them all. I did some travelling and was able to live in Indonesia, Alaska and Hawaii for a while. Along my journey, a friend introduced me to doula work. I thought that was it, I had found what I wanted to do. I moved to San Diego to live with a midwife and pursue this new career as a doula.

After attending a handful of births, it was clear to me that midwifery was my passion. I had discovered a desire for more knowledge and wanted a deeper way to connect with the women that I worked with. I had a beautiful home birth with my son, and when he got a little older, I made the decision to move to Portland to attend Birthingway College of Midwifery.

I graduated from midwifery school in July of 2019. As of the summer of 2019, I have attended over 60 births with Rose City Midwifery. I began as a student with RCM and now look forward to serving many more families as an assistant midwife! In my spare time, when I am not attending a birth, you will find me working in my garden, making plant medicines or body care products, and hanging out with my son. I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your journey into motherhood.
